5 Awesome Resorts for Adults in Tahiti (French Polynesia)
Welcome to French Polynesia! And no, that doesn’t mean only to Tahiti! Contrary to what a lot of people think, Tahiti is not a single island nation that is all alone in the South Pacific. Yes, it is a single island but it is just one of many islands that make up an island group called the Society Islands. This island group is a part of French Polynesia which is a part of the French Republic and it is officially an overseas country. French Polynesia is only one geographic area within the region of Polynesia itself which also includes Hawaii, Tonga, and even New Zealand.

In addition to the Society Islands, French Polynesia has another four island groups which include the Austral Islands, the Gambier Islands, the Marquesas Islands and Tuamotus Islands. All of these create a total of 121 islands and atolls. Approximately 75 of these are inhabited with the island of Tahiti being the most populous one. 69% of the French Polynesian population lives on this island with the Tahitian city of Papeete being the capital of French Polynesia.
In this post, we will explore 5 of the best resorts with beaches for adults in French Polynesia (not all hotels here have a beach!) and they are all located within the vicinity of Tahiti. These islands are renowned for their stunning beaches and island scenery, crystal-clear waters, overwater bungalows, and lush
This part of the South Pacific does not have resorts which are truly adults-only meaning specifically for guests aged 18 and older as children of all ages are allowed to some degree at all of them. But there are several luxurious resorts of varying sizes which are geared towards adults who are looking for that exclusive

5. Le Tikehau Resort
If you really want to get away, and we mean far away from the touristy areas and the larger luxury hotels and resorts, then the journey to Le Tikehau Resort will be worth it. This resort is owned by Pearl Resorts which operates 4 other resorts in the Tahitian islands. It is about 220 miles northeast of the island of Tahiti and is takes about an hour to reach with a connecting flight from Papeete.
It is more remote than many other resort in this region and it is more on the rustic side. It is located on the Tikehau atoll in the Tuamotus Islands which lie just west of the Rangiroa atoll. It is a truly quiet place because the Tikehau atoll only has around 500 local inhabitants. They make a living from tourism, coconut farming, pearl farming and fishing which is the primary activity. Guests can visit the world-famous fish traps which is where fish are caught before being shipped to Tahiti.

Tikehau is known for the pink-sand motu (islets) that make up this atoll. Le Tikehau Resort is perfect for those travelers who are looking for a smaller resort which doesn’t have larger restaurants or crowded spaces. This resort only features 29 rooms and if it is fully booked, the maximum number of guests does not exceed 60. So it truly is a smaller place that one can escape to for true peace and quiet.
The 29 rooms are made up of 21 overwater bungalows and suites and 8 beach bungalows. Each of these are constructed in traditional Polynesian style with natural materials such as bamboo, teak, and “niau” which are coconut palm fronds that are woven together.

All accommodations at Le Tikehau are spacious and feature king-sized beds with an additional single bed, air conditioning, a smart TV, and free Wifi. Each one also has a private deck and a minibar. The beach bungalows look out onto small private gardens and also face onto the lagoon with its endless shades of blue. Coconut palms will be swaying in the breeze right outside.

The regular overwater bungalows feature a wonderful deck with amazing lagoon views. But take note: the regular overwater bungalows do not have direct access to the lagoon as they are located on a coral zone with a current that does not allow for swimming. So if entering the water directly from your deck is not important to you, this set of bungalows will be perfect for you.

However, if you do want direct access to the lagoon from your private deck, be sure to book a premium overwater bungalow. These are located further out into the lagoon where swimming is possible. If you prefer larger accommodations over the water, then be sure to check out the overwater suites as these feature a living room area and a larger outdoor deck.
For dining, this smaller resort features one restaurant and one bar. But that is fine because the menu at Poreho includes wonderful dishes which are a fusion of Polynesian and European flavors and are made using locally sourced ingredients. You can truly enjoy your dining experience with beautiful views of the lagoon. The interior is a beautiful space that is designed in a chic Polynesian style. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Kaina Bar is open in the evenings and there, you can enjoy evening cocktails in a casual yet intimate setting.

Le Tikehau Resort offers a range of activities both on land and in the water. Since the resort is alone on its own lush motu, each neighboring motu is a wild place that you can explore on foot or by kayak. You can also visit the main village of Tuherahera. Excursions are available to Bird Island which is a natural sanctuary for many bird species such as crested terns, blue noddies, and red-footed boobies.

You can also schedule and enjoy a picnic on the pink sand beach of a nearby secluded motu which includes a sampling of Polynesian cuisine such as a dish of raw fish with coconut milk and fresh fruit. There are also snorkeling and lagoon tours in addition to fishing and diving excursions, kayaking, paddleboarding and even private sunset cruises. There is also a fully equipped onsite gym available.
For those who love a great spa treatment, be sure to visit the Tāvai Spa to awaken your senses, reenergize your body, and soothe the mind. Here you will find a range of rejuvenating treatments that combine traditional Polynesian healing techniques, massages, facials and body scrubs. Local flower-infused coconut oils are a Tahitian specialty and they are used in spa treatments as an essential ingredient.
