Our mission is to empower local artisans and their communities by bringing their craftsmanship and beauty to you while raising awareness of some of the most remote yet beautiful places on Earth at the same time. Many of these artisans do not have regular access to global markets so we are doing what we can to establish the pathways needed to bring their creations to you while increasing their financial strength at the same time. A large number of these artisans are women and we place preference on supporting these women-owned businesses and their families. Nothing offered for sale on our site is mass-produced, nothing is made in factories and nothing is made in China. Everything offered is handmade in its country of origin which we proudly highlight in each product description.
We firmly believe in fair trade practices and in paying a fair price. We are also deeply committed to the promotion of human rights and the protection of children. We do draw and emphasize the distinction between child labor and true learning opportunities such as apprenticeships. Artistic traditions and cultural meaning should be passed on to younger generations so that techniques and culture can continue to survive as long as the children are free to be themselves and pursue a meaningful education. Cerulean Bay truly values the resilience, the strength and the pride of these cultures which have existed for centuries.
